We weren't by any means the first through the locks, but at least we got going reasonably early and moved on towards Rugby. Moored in Rugby near a medium sized Tesco expecting it to be open so that we could top with all the various things we'd forgotten to pack, only to find that it was closed. We, and plenty of others were somewhat disappointed, especially as at least one person had checked on line that it was open.
We came across a field with a small herd of aurochs, or something a bit like them!
And various swans incubating.
In due course we got into the Ashby Canal, which has no locks over its 22 mile length and therefore requires minimal extra water to keep it navigable.
Nice gentle cruising meeting the odd boat here and there, usually right on a blind bend with a bridge where two boats can't pass, but we haven't hit anyone yet, or at least not very hard!
Came across some unusual boats such as this pedal/paddle-steamer:
Moored for the night at Hinckley for the night.
